[SME MEETS] Yasmin *EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW* by wearesme

Aged just 21, Yasmin Shahmir posseses incredible talent and is one of Britain’s most promising female artists.

Yasmin was born in Manchester and raised in Glasgow, but it was the city of London which would prove to be the turning point in her life and provide her with the exposure she sought.

Having moved to London at the age of 19 in order to pursue her DJing career, she soon received the recognition she deserved; going on to DJ for the likes of N*E*R*D, Taio Cruz and Eve.

Off the back of her success in DJing, Yasmin decided to pursue a career in singing, and went on to sign a record deal with Levels Entertainment (part of Ministry of Sound). She has since supported Example on his UK tour, featured on the song ‘Runaway’ with East London’s finest MC; Devlin and most recently went on to release her debut single ‘On My Own’ which charted at #39; an impressive achievement for a debut record. Yasmin is also currently working on her debut album with the likes of Jamie XX, Labrinth and Shy FX.

Having seen her tear of the roof dropping endless Hip-Hop bangers during her DJ set at Rock The Belles, we were eager to talk Yasmin and find out if in fact there is anything that this girl can’t do?
Our wish was granted and here’s what we asked the beautiful singer/DJ/model/superwoman. The last one on that list isn’t entirely true; at least as far as we know!

Oh my goshhhhhh! D Double E, Dizzee Rascal and Footsie all flooded out Twitter timelines with #BLUKUBLUKU for the last 24 hours in anticipation for the premiere of the lead track from D Double’s new EP also named ‘Bluku Bluku’.

As advised in the 1,000,000 tweets, we locked into Westwood on Radio 1 at 9pm and boy were we in for a treat! The track dropped, and on it, was a verse from none other than Dizzee Diz! It came as a complete surprise and it was so refreshing to hear Dizzee on a grime beat again.

Shout to S-X on productions, who is slowly establishing himself as the best producer on the scene right now.

Listen to D Double E and Dizzee shout “Bluku Bluku!” below, and head over to iTunes to download it NOW!

"This is diplo; also Wesley Pentz..."

Here at SME, we’re rather partial to moving documentation; especially when it gives us an insight into the people who cause us to skank. Diplo, the man behind record label Mad Decent and his avatar Major Lazer, has been featuring this short documentary at this years SXSW.

Whilst preparing for his annual Philadelphia Mad Decent Block Party, Diplo – unsurprisingly – reveals himself to be a salt of the earth kind-of-guy, talking about the influences he takes from studying both film and anthropology.

Shot mesmerizingly by director Wing-Yee Wu, this is one not to miss. Enjoy.

[NEW MUSIC] DJ Khaled feat. Ludacris, T-Pain, Busta Rhymes, Mavado, Twista, Birdman, Ace Hood, Fat Joe, Jadakiss, Bun B, Game & Waka Flocka – Welcome To My Hood (Remix) by wearesme

Coming to a Sunday league near you; self appointed manager and chairman DJ Khaled, has drawn up a 13 strong team which he will play under the name of Welcome To My Hood. Ok that might not be entirely true, but it does allow for humorous mental images!

He has however called upon 12 Hip-Hop heavy weights for the official remix of Welcome To My Hood. The pulling power this man has is unquestionable; the line-up is ridiculos! And it will come as no surprise when we tell you it lives up to expectations. WOW.

An 11 minute grime track from 1 artist has got the whole scene up in raptures tonight, after it was aired for the first time by Logan on his Kiss 100 show. The name on every one’s lips is Durrty Goodz.

Has he called for the whole scene? Who cares? This track is a madness! He switches the flow up so many times it will have you questioning if this really is a battle as the title would suggest; Battle Hype. Listen out for some of the familiar flows he mimics.
