Just last weekend, Kanye West’s Twitter went into overdrive as he tweeted over 200 times in the space of only a few hours. The main focus of his manic tweeting was THAT incident with Taylor Swift at the 2009 VMAs. Since then, he has been made out to be some sort of comic-book villain by the media. He clearly appeared apologetic for his actions and seems desperate for a fresh start and we are more than happy to give him one. After all, the man is a very talented artist and deserves the credit he is due.

One of Kanye’s recent ‘projects’ to help introduce, rather re-introduce, his musical genius is G.O.O.D. Fridays in which every Friday up until Christmas he is planning on dropping a brand new tune, available for free download. Boom.

So far we have had Monster, which features Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross & Bon Iver and, more recently, he released Devil In A New Dress.

Now, we must not forget that Kanye hasn’t just decided to be brilliant over night. He always has been. Despite one very public slip-up, there was always a place for him in our hearts and especially our heads with his catchy beats and distinctive flow. That’s why we want to celebrate his genius and remind everyone why we loved him in the first place.

He rose to fame as a producer working with artists such as Jay Z, Alicia Keys and Ludacris. Kanye then released his debut album College Dropout in 2004, which featured classic songs like Slow Jamz, Through The Wire and All Falls Down. His second album, Late Registration, dropped in 2005 with the likes of Gold Digga and Diamonds from Sierra Leone. Graduation came next in 2007 boasting Stronger and Good Life. Fourth album, 808s & Heartbreak came in 2008 featuring the singles Love Lockdown and Heartless.

These four albums have won him, deservedly so, twelve Grammys as well as many other awards and critical acclaim. His forthcoming album, looks due to be released in September so hold tight for that because Kanye has a lot to prove as he tries to set the record straight once and for all.

Don’t worry Kanye, SME will always love you.

Way Back When…B2K by wearesme

That’s right, its back!

Having gone AWOL for a few months our much loved feature Way Back When has returned, and it’s bigger and better than ever. Not only will we bring you some of our favourite tunes from the years gone by, but we will also be doing whole features on artists and even years.

So to kick start things, we would like to re-introduce you to B2K. Founded and managed by music producer Chris Stokes in 2001 with Lil’ Fizz, J-Boog, Raz-B, and Omarion as members. B2K was an R&B/Hip-Hop boy band of the early 2000’s, until their break-up in 2004.

During their time together, they released two studio albums. The first, self-titled B2K, debuted at number 2 in the U.S. and the follow up, Pandemonium, only reached number 10. They also collaborated and associated themselves with some pretty heavyweight names like Bow Wow, Ray J, P Diddy and Usher. However, it is singles such as Bump Bump Bump, Girlfriend and Badaboom, which featured on the You Got Served soundtrack, that they will always be remembered for.

So, sit back, appreciate and enjoy the musical talents of B2K…

Yes thats right, its back.

After skipping a week last week, Way Back When returns in what will be the last in our series of old school bangers before it returns bigger and badder than ever. Nice.

So to celebrate/commiserate we have decided to hit you up with not one, not two but THREE tunes. Triple nice.

First up is that crazy gang know as the Wu Tang Clan, with their hit from way back in 2001, Gravel Pit:

Next, from the Original Pirate material album and the first of many tunes that had us drooling over skinner’s flow…

And finally, the Ed Case remix of what was already a classic from the Gorillaz. Boom.

Enjoy. SME x

Following up yesterday’s Banger of the Week which featured a remix of Tinie Tempah’s new tune ‘Frisky’ by Shy Fx; it only seems right to bring to you this tune from way back in 1994 (yes it really is that old) from the man himself.

All hail Shy Fx…

SME x

Heres a tune from way back when SME were still rolling around in nappies and didn’t have a care in the world. Good times.

Check out the tasty threads on show. Boom.

Enjoy x

Way Back When…Sean Paul by wearesme

This week SME would like to bring you a song from way back when Euro notes and coins first entered circulation, Run DMC officially disbanded and the World Cup was held in South Korea & Japan. We are of course referring to 2002.

‘Punkie’ was never officially released as a single (hence the lack of video) but still remains SME’s favourite song from Sean Paul’s debut album, ‘Dutty Rock’. The singles Like Glue, Gimme The Light and Get Busy were still bangers and worth a listen, for old times sake.

Enjoy the memories x

This weeks old school banger certainly brings back a lot of good memories for SME; way back when UK Garage was well represented in the charts and the year that the infamous ‘Foot and Mouth Crisis’ began (whos needs volcanic ash clouds or Swine Flu?). Yes, we are talking about 2001.

’21 Seconds’ featured on debut ablum ‘They Don’t Know; and is So Solid Crews only number 1 single to date. It was the follow up to their first release Oh No (Sentimental things) and won a place in the hearts of many a teenager.

Hope you enjoy this as much as we do.

Two multiplied by Ten, plus One, SME done. x
