[WATCH] Super Bowl XLV Commercials by wearesme

Last night saw the Greenbay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers compete in the 45th annual Super Bowl. The game was held at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas where the Lil Wayne backed Packers were eventually crowned champions after a 31-25 victory.

Such is the popularity of the Super Bowl, (last years match drew viewing figures of 106.5 million in the US alone) that advertising slots during the match are the most expensive in the world. This year, a 30 second slot would set you back no less than $3 million. WOW.

As you can imagine; with the adverts carrying such a hefty price tag, only the major companies get in on the action. Companies such as Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Mercedes Benz and Budweiser compete with each other to come up with the most unique and talked about commercial. Naturally, they rope in all the celebs they can; with the likes of Eminem, P Diddy, Justin Beiber and Kim Kardashian all featuring at some point.

In celebration of the upcoming NBA All-Star game, Lakers star Kobe Bryant has been cast by director Robert Rodriguez in a Nike produced film titled ‘The Black Mamba’; which incidentally is Kobe’s nickname. Bruce Willis, Kanye West and Danny Trejo all play cameo roles alongside Kobe in this cheeky flick.

The month of February is fast approaching (Christmas feels like yesterday!?) and with it comes the celebration of ‘Black History Month’ in the U.S. Here in the U.K it is celebrated in the month of October.

This year, Nike have once again released a line of footwear, this time celebrating the achievements of 3 legendary basketball players; Julius Irving, Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant.

This year’s Black History Month Nike Air Force 1 celebrates the achievements and pioneering spirit of three important basketball players: Julius Irving, Michael Jordan, and Kobe Bryant. There was a call to greatness for all three players, a moment in time that defined their careers, and changed the course of history for the sport of Basketball. For Dr. J, it was unifying the ABA and NBA with his finesse and high-flying style. SME are huge football fans and are praying that we get the 2018 World Cup here in England. It would be a once in a lifetime experience and would have a massive impact on the economy. Today is decision day, so it won’t be long before we find out whether our prayers have been answered.

This morning, David Beckham did his utmost to sway any undecided voters with an inspired and passionate speech in front of an assembly of world football’s governing body at its headquarters in Zurich. Watch the speech below:

We R Interactive, a UK start-up backed by ITV, has today unveiled the first-ever point-of-view football game and it looks amazing if they can pull it off!

I Am Playr is sponsored by Nike, and former Manchester Utd and England star Teddy Sheringham is among a number of stars lined up to take cameo roles.The game, which blends video with social media, will be released in January 2011 and has been made with Big Balls Films.

David Haye TKO’s Fraudley Harrison in Round 3 by wearesme

First off, we’d like to empathise with those of you who forked out £15 of your hard earned and/or sacrificed a night out on the tiles to watch this fight.

Everyone knows that Audley Harrison is a walking talking joke, but even the most experienced pundits out there held the opinion that he might put up some sort of a fight; after all he is a gold medalist.

But that wasn’t the case and after an extremely uneventful first 2 rounds and having thrown next to no punches, Audley Harrison was knocked out and left 1 million pounds richer. Its a funny old world!

[VIDEO] David Beckham on The Ellen Show (Hidden Camera Prank) by wearesme

David Beckham was interviewed by Ellen DeGeners for The Ellen Show due to be aired in the U.S on Thursday. During the interview he flashed his boxers to a stunned Ellen, but they weren’t Calvin Klein, they had Ellen branded around the waistband, much to her delight!


During the interview Ellen got her own back by showing a photoshopped version of the infamous David and Victoria Armani underwear campaign (above) with her head in place of Victoria’s. And if that wasn’t embarrassing enough for David; she showed footage of it being revealed on various billboards including Times Square and Sunset Boulevard! Joker! The pranks didn’t stop there. After the interview was recorded, David took part in a hidden camera scene in which he had to repeat and do everything that Ellen relayed through his ear piece, while he received a massage from the poor unsuspecting female masseuse. The poor girl, she must have thought he was a nutcase!

[NEWS+VIDEO] Dear Mr Hicks (Liverpool F.C) by mozzatron

Actors, Comedians, Musicians, Politicians and even ex Big Brother contestants have joined forces with your average die-hard Liverpool fan, to voice their opinions in a video protesting against the American owners of their club Liverpool F.C.

With the club in turmoil, both financially and on the field, one fan in particular was adamant that something had to be done; that man is Mike Jefferies. Mike created a blog and enlisted the help of all his fellow Liverpudlian’s in an attempt to force out owners Tom Hicks and George Gillet.

He initially drafted an email 2 weeks ago, which he encouraged his readers to forward to a host of American news reporters whose emails he had acquired. The response was immediate. The following morning, the story was picked up by several U.S papers including the New York Times. This placed further pressure on Messrs Hicks & Gillett as they were now having to answer to accusations from both sides of the Atlantic.

But Mike Jefferies wasn’t going to stop there. He decided to make a short film, in which Liverpool fans and stakeholders could tell the world what the thought of Hicks. For this film, he called upon a whole host of Liverpool supporting celebrities to take part and they were more than willing.

Jefferies also wanted the fans to be included – “So if YOU want to come along and tell Tom Hicks what you think of him, we will be filming on Saturday from 10.00am – 6.00pm at the Hope Street Hotel in Liverpool. Please form an orderly queue and be prepared for a wait.”

His overall aim for this project? “Imagine if we can get a MILLION HITS on YouTube! If we achieve that, then we can rest assured that everyone who counts will know that Tom Hicks is utterly despised.”

And so, as promised, the film was shot and uploaded to YouTube:

Even if you’re not a football fan, I’m sure you can appreciate how strongly these fans feel about the matter; shown through the passion behind each and every message in the film.
We should also take a moment to appreciate the power of social networking and how through blogs and sites like Twitter, people power can have a huge impact on society.

Lionel Messi at Hackney Marshes… Surely not? by wearesme

It is often said; “Get these professional players down Hackney Marshes and see how they get on”.

Well, yesterday, this was the case. Or at least, it was meant to be. Lionel Messi touched down in London to take part in a massive publicity stunt for his sponsors Adidas, in which he was expected to come on as a substitute for the last 10 minutes of a match featuring amateurs. But unfortunately the event had to be cancelled because of fears for the World Player of the Year’s security.

The organisers had obviously not taken into account the number of people interested in such an event. After posting clues on Facebook about Messi’s whereabouts and then revealing the location 30 minutes beforehand, hundreds of youths turned out to see the best player in the world playing on their local pitches.

Messi flew onto the pitch via helicopter direct from London City Airport. The second he stepped out of the chopper he was hounded, which led to him being bundled into the back of a van by his minders and led to a safer area away from the pitch.

So, maybe we will never find out how the top footballers in the world would perform down Hackney Marshes.
