[NEWS] Beyonce confirmed as Glastonbury 2011 headliner by wearesme

3 years after her husband Sean Carter aka Jay-Z caused a stir when it was announced that he would be headlining at Glastonbury 2008; Beyonce has today been confirmed as the final day’s headline at this years festival.

Rumours were rife this week that Beyonce, Coldplay and U2 would be the 3 headline slots and in a statement release moments ago, B has confirmed that 1/3 of the rumours were definitely correct.

“This really is the biggest festival in the world and I cannot wait to perform there. Everyone who attends is really appreciative of music and is in such a good mood that entire weekend,” said Beyonce in a statement. “I’m pumped just thinking about that huge audience and soaking up their energy.”

Beyonce will perform a 90 minute set on the last day of the festival. It remains to be seen whether this announcement will cause as much controversy as that of her husband 3 years ago. Personally SME think it’s a brilliant move from the Glastonbury organiser Michael Eavis. Beyonce is one of the worlds best who will put on an incredible show and pick up where Jay-Z left off.

This doesnt require much of a write up because the above poster is self explanatory. We don’t need to tell you how incredible this line-up looks and how extremely jealous we are that it isn’t being held in the U.K!! (insert sad face)

Arcade Fire, Kanye West and Kings of Leon headline the event which is held in Indio, California and runs from April 15-17th and are worth the admission alone; never mind the 100+ other acts!

If you’re lucky enough to be going; SME hate you.

Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg has been named Time magazine’s ‘Person of the Year’ for 2010 and at 26 becomes the youngest since the first ever ‘Person of the Year’; Charles Lindbergh, who was 25 when he was selected in 1927.

The award is given to the figure Time believe have had the most influence on events in 2010. Time managing editor Richard Stengel said Mr Zuckerberg’s social networking service was “transforming the way we live our lives every day”.

Zuckerberg co-founded Facebook while a student at Harvard University in 2004. The social networking site now has more than 500 million users worldwide, employs more than 1,700 people and as many of you are probably aware, has had been subject of a film charting its rise; The Social Network.

Mr Zuckerberg, estimated to be worth $6.9bn (£4.4bn), is one of the richest people in the US, and earlier this month he became one of the latest billionaires to pledge to give away the majority of his wealth. He is one of 17 new people to support a group, founded by Bill Gates and his wife along with Warren Buffett, which encourages America’s wealthiest to publicly promise to donate to charity.

In a statement, Mr Zuckerberg said the Time award was “a real honour and recognition of how our little team is building something that hundreds of millions of people want to use to make the world more open and connected. I’m happy to be a part of that.”

Congratulations Mr Zuckerberg, but please stop pissing around with the Facebook layout! Thanks.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

The final 10 is as follows:

1. Eminem
2. Jay-Z
3. Kanye West
4. Drake
5. Rick Ross
6. Nicki Minaj
7. Lil Wayne
8. Waka Flocka

As much as we love HOVA, we would liked to have seen Kanye sitting in second because he really is untouchable right now.
