[VIDEO] Magnetic Man – The Bug (Live in the 1Xtra Live Lounge) by wearesme

Fresh from blowing the roof off at Brixton Academy on Saturday evening for the NME Awards Tour; Skream, Benga and Artwork popped in to see Trevor Nelson in the 1Xtra studios and were kind enough to give a live performance of their song ‘The Bug’, taken from their debut album Magnetic Man.

Below you can see footage of the performance; a fascinating insight, as they piece the song together as if it were a puzzle. Technology these days!

SME RELOAD: [REVIEW] NME Awards Tour Brixon 20/02/11

[REVIEW] NME Awards Tour @ Brixton 20/2/11 by wearesme

SME were very kindly invited down to Brixton Academy for the NME Awards Tour on Saturday evening by our friends at Get Involved. The lineup looked pretty impressive; The Vaccines, Everything Everything, Magnetic Man and Crystal Castles all in one evening? It was like Christmas come early!

The Awards Tour began all the way up in Glasgow at the beginning of the month and this, the biggest show of them all, would bring it to a close.

We were sure to arrive early because The Vaccines were up first, and following our interview with Freddie from the band, we couldn’t wait to seeing the band live for the first time.
They certainly didn’t disappoint; their up beat rock n roll sound had the main floor bouncing, especially during their brilliant debut single Post Break-Up Sex and the frantic 1 minute 20 seconds long Wreckin’ Bar, which will forever be a fan favourite. The band also performed their next single ‘If You Wanna’ which is due for release in March.

Their sets remain fairly short, at roughly the half hour mark; but in this short time they bring with them brilliant positive energy and upbeat, feel good tracks which leave you in great spirits. Having now seen them live, it is easy to see why they are tipped to be a band that will play a major part in guitar music’s resurgence in 2011.

[REVIEW] Magnetic Man & Katy B Gig @ Heaven, London 03/11/10 by wearesme

On a surprisingly warm Wednesday evening that felt more like the beginning of July than November; SME made our way to Heaven in Charing Cross for the London leg of the Magnetic Man tour. Boy were we excited!

The lovely Katy B warmed up the crowd, taking to the stage in a Rinse FM T-Shirt (keeping it real!) to perform a handful of tracks including her new single ‘Lights On’ and her big hit ‘Katy On A Mission’.

After an annoyingly long gap between warm up and headline slot, Benga, Skream and Artwork took to the stage inside this box like structure. Little did we know it was more than just a bit of scaffolding…It was definitely worth the wait.

The cube lit up with a massive ‘M’ while the rest of the room was left in darkness. The shadows of the boys could be seen in flashes as they spun the intro of Mad (which SME think sounds like a theme tune to an old Nintendo arcade game) to build suspense before sending the crowd nuts with the drop. It was pretty epic.

Banger Of The Week by wearesme

Magnetic Man feat. Ms Dynamite – Fire

Magnetic Man’s album was released this week and they have absolutely smashed it so we felt it would be plain rude not to feature them as our Banger Of The Week.

Every track on the album is a banger, but for us the stand out is Fire featuring Ms Dynamite. She’s back and killing it lately.

[MUSIC] Banger(s) Of The Week by wearesme

This week we bring you 2 BIG remixes!

MAGNETIC MAN FEAT. KATY B – PERFECT STRANGER (BENGA REMIX)

Benga, 1/3 of Magnetic Man, was the one who drew the straw this time round to try his hand at remixing their brilliant track ‘Perfect Stranger’. It’s not a bad set up; when 3 of the biggest dubstep DJ/Producers around come together and then call upon a fellow group member to remix one of their own tracks!
Benga has given this track his own dubstep vibe as opposed to the DnB original.

PROFESSOR GREEN FEAT. EXAMPLE – MONSTER (T.E.E.D. REMIX)

T.E.E.D a.k.a Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs (yes you heard right) is the alias of one Orlando Higginbottom; an up and coming Electro/Techno producer. He has been tasked with the official remix for Professor Greens track featuring Example, ‘Monster’. Better than the original. Have a listen.
