Whilst jamming at Camden Town station this morning, SME were pleasantly surprised to look up at the big screen on platform 2 and see a visual that well and truly made us smile. This intrigued us. Who was behind this? Why did they do it? Are we the only ones who noticed it?

Well, it turns out that it is part of a campaign across the capital to cheer up us moody Londoners during the rush hour commute. Fair play.

The campaign named Smile For London has been running since last week and will carry on right through to the end of January. It invites designers and film-makers to send in 20 second clips that will brighten people’s mornings and evenings.

You can catch one of the screenings at the following stations: Camden Town, Euston, Holborn, Liverpool Street, Moorgate, Oxford Circus, Paddington, Piccadilly Circus, Victoria and Waterloo. Check below for which platforms to check out.

And remember; smile.

[SME MEETS] Dynamo *Exclusive Interview* by wearesme

Dynamo is arguably the best close-up magician around, having performed to some of the biggest stars in the world. He has performed for the likes of Tinie Tempah, Paris Hilton, Example, Busta Rhymes, Snoop Dogg and of course SME!

Dynamo, born Steve Frayne, grew up on Bradford’s Delph Hill Estate, one of the most violent and deprived estates in the north of England. He first learned magic from his grandfather and developed it during trips to New Orleans.

As word spread about his magic tricks he soon found himself performing on the celebrity circuit for stars like Paris Hilton and Busta Rhymes. He released an independent DVD called ‘Underground Magic’ featuring celebrities such as Coldplay, Gwenyth Paltrow and Snoop Dogg. The DVD generated considerable press in the UK and lead to appearances on shows such as Richard & Judy and a Channel 4 special ‘Dynamo’s Estate Of Mind’.

He followed up ‘Underground Magic’ with the release of the DVD called ‘Concrete Playground’ and his popularity only continues to grow. Most recently Dynamo worked with Panasonic on a promotional campaign for the TA1 Camera, which saw him performing for a host of musicians and DJ’s; all of which he documented using the Panasonic camera.

This week SME were delighted to have the chance to sit down and have a bit of a chat with Dynamo about the year gone by, the year ahead and his taste in music.

[NEWS] Matt Cardle’s ‘When We Collide’ crowned Christmas Number 1 by wearesme

2010 X Factor winner Matt Cardle has beaten all competition in this weeks chart to claim the elusive Christmas number one.

Matt’s cover of the Mercury Prize-nominated Biffy Clyro track ‘Many Of Horrors’ sold a massive 439,000 copies in the six days following his victory on the ITV talent show last Sunday, making it the biggest selling non-charity record in its debut week this year.
Also of note; Biffy Clyro’s original track entered at number 8 with a massive 40,000 sales this week. The power of the X Factor is unquestionable!

Rihanna claimed the number 2 with an impressive 100,000+ in sales for her collaboration with Drake on ‘What’s My Name’. Her steamy performance on the X Factor final definitely didn’t harm sales!

Facebook campaign contenders failed in their attempted ambush of the Christmas number one with Trashmen ‘Surfin Bird’ made number 3 with 68,000 copies and John Cage’s ‘4 33’ entered at number 21 with just under 15,000 sales.

So, congratulations to Matt Cardle! And love or hate The X Factor, you can’t deny that this is a beautiful song; whether you prefer Matt’s version or the original.

[NEWS] Coca-Cola Christmas Twitter Campaign in London by wearesme

Someone from Coca-Cola was clearly in attendance of our We Are S.M.E Blog Party in Shoreditch on Friday night, because in news released today, Coca-Cola is giving people the chance to post messages on its infamous electronic sign in London Piccadilly via Twitter.

O.K, so the electronic sign in Piccadilly is a lot more glamorous than the projector in Villain (East Village) but SME set trends, remember that!

The campaign, created by design agency Sedley Place, allows consumers to tweet their Christmas messages to the official Coca-Cola Twitter account (@cokezone) for the opportunity to have it displayed on the electronic sign.

Those who are lucky enough to have their tweets displayed will receive a direct message from Coca-Cola and their message will be shown on the sign five minutes later.

Tweets can also be viewed live on their website, www.cokezone.co.uk/piccadilly, via a webcam set up to film the sign.

The campaign runs until 23 December.

SME’s are currently in talks with our lawyers regarding the matter.

Oh and don’t forget to follow us on Twitter! @wearesme

[SNAPS] Jay-Z Decoded Viral Marketing Campaign by wearesme

This isn’t just any book and likewise it wasn’t your every day promotional campaign either. It wasn’t just book signings, adverts in WH Smiths and features in Richard & Judy’s book club; this was HOVA.

To promote his book, Jay-Z and his team set about creating a campaign like no other. Extracts of the book were placed in weird and wonderful locations around the world, and fans were tasked with finding said extracts both in real life and through a ‘Google maps’ like feature on the book website.

They hid all 320 pages of Decoded in plain sight in 13 cities: on a rooftop in New Orleans, a pool bottom in Miami, cheeseburger wrappers in New York City, and more. Fans who found them all got a chance at two tickets to any Jay-Z concert anywhere, for life!

The book was released last week and with it the locations of the extracts. We previously brought you the Gucci jacket and the extracts found in London.
