[SME MEETS] Yasmin *EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW* by wearesme

Aged just 21, Yasmin Shahmir posseses incredible talent and is one of Britain’s most promising female artists.

Yasmin was born in Manchester and raised in Glasgow, but it was the city of London which would prove to be the turning point in her life and provide her with the exposure she sought.

Having moved to London at the age of 19 in order to pursue her DJing career, she soon received the recognition she deserved; going on to DJ for the likes of N*E*R*D, Taio Cruz and Eve.

Off the back of her success in DJing, Yasmin decided to pursue a career in singing, and went on to sign a record deal with Levels Entertainment (part of Ministry of Sound). She has since supported Example on his UK tour, featured on the song ‘Runaway’ with East London’s finest MC; Devlin and most recently went on to release her debut single ‘On My Own’ which charted at #39; an impressive achievement for a debut record. Yasmin is also currently working on her debut album with the likes of Jamie XX, Labrinth and Shy FX.

Having seen her tear of the roof dropping endless Hip-Hop bangers during her DJ set at Rock The Belles, we were eager to talk Yasmin and find out if in fact there is anything that this girl can’t do?
Our wish was granted and here’s what we asked the beautiful singer/DJ/model/superwoman. The last one on that list isn’t entirely true; at least as far as we know!

[NEWS] Adele writes history in this weeks UK Chart by wearesme

This weeks UK chart has just been announced and it’s an incredible week for Adele and her label XL Recordings.

She has stormed to the top of the album charts with her second album 21 achieving record sales of over 208,000 in just one week; a figure that is only bettered by Take That’s ‘Patience’ last year. 21 is now the highest selling January album for five years.

Incredibly she her debut album 19 has made its way back into the chart securing a number 4 slot over 2 years after its release! Adele is the first artist for almost twelve years to score two Official Albums Chart Top 5 hits, including the number one, simultaneously.

And as if that wasn’t enough, Adele also has 3 singles in the Top 40 with Rolling In The Deep (3), Make You Feel My Love (15) and Someone Like You (36).

Incredible. And Deserved.

[NEWS] Matt Cardle’s ‘When We Collide’ crowned Christmas Number 1 by wearesme

2010 X Factor winner Matt Cardle has beaten all competition in this weeks chart to claim the elusive Christmas number one.

Matt’s cover of the Mercury Prize-nominated Biffy Clyro track ‘Many Of Horrors’ sold a massive 439,000 copies in the six days following his victory on the ITV talent show last Sunday, making it the biggest selling non-charity record in its debut week this year.
Also of note; Biffy Clyro’s original track entered at number 8 with a massive 40,000 sales this week. The power of the X Factor is unquestionable!

Rihanna claimed the number 2 with an impressive 100,000+ in sales for her collaboration with Drake on ‘What’s My Name’. Her steamy performance on the X Factor final definitely didn’t harm sales!

Facebook campaign contenders failed in their attempted ambush of the Christmas number one with Trashmen ‘Surfin Bird’ made number 3 with 68,000 copies and John Cage’s ‘4 33’ entered at number 21 with just under 15,000 sales.

So, congratulations to Matt Cardle! And love or hate The X Factor, you can’t deny that this is a beautiful song; whether you prefer Matt’s version or the original.

[NEWS] No repeat of RATM 09 – First day chart sales put Matt Cardle top for X-Mas #1 by wearesme

Exclusive early Official Single sales data show Matt Cardle’s X Factor winners single ‘When We Collide’ is well on course for a Xmas No 1 this Sunday with a huge 112,000 sales in its 1st day.

This would suggest there will be no repeat of last years number 1 ambush, with ‘Surfin’ Bird’ by Trashman sat in 3rd place (25,000) behind Rihanna’s ‘Whats My Name’ (50,000) and ‘Cage Against The Machine’ at 19 (6,000) .

Interestingly, Biffy Clyro’s original version of Matt Cardle winners song (Many Of Horror) is on course to enter the Top 10, with 15,000 sales so far.

The group are inevitably set to earn an impressive pay packet this Christmas from the cover of their hit song. Going off past calculations, songwriter Simon Neil could earn £25,000 from sales alone and another £125 for every radio play. Based on 2008 winner Alexandra Burke’s cover of ‘Hallelujah’ being played 4,435 times in the two months after its release, earnings from playback alone could reach in excess of £500,000. (NME)
