X FACTOR 06/11/10 – BEST OF THE BUNCH by wearesme

A pretty good week all round. Baring Wagner (he’s become a more regular fixture than Cheryl’s bronzer!) SME think the weaker contestants have been voted off and were sure you’ll agree the standard now is pretty high.

Although, that being said, the strongest singers stand out like a sore thumb week in week out. And it’s no coincidence that the 2 contestants in question are our favourite performances this week; Matt Cardle and Rebecca Ferguson.

This week Matt sang the classic folk song, ‘The First Time (Ever I Saw Your Face)’. The track, written by Ewan MacColl, was popularised by Roberta Flack in the 1970’s.

Whenever Matt sings you believe every word he says and the notes he hits are incredible for a male vocalist.

At the end of the performance Danny mentioned there was a story behind this song and speaking to The News Of The World Matt revealed that he had dedicated the song to his mum’s late best friend Sharon, who died when he was 11. After her death, Matt’s mother looked after Sharon’s four sons who then became like brothers to Matt and his older brother Dominic.

Rebecca sang ‘Make You Feel My Love’ by the legendary Bob Dylan and it was also notably covered by Billy Joel.

It’s incredible that such a shy and modest girl can step on stage  and look so experienced and believable. It looks like she’s been doing it for years! She has real maturity in her performances and a distinctive voice. Rebecca makes classic sound current which is a real gift.

There isn’t a doubt in SME’s mind that she will make the final.

Also a quick mention to Aiden Grimshaw who also did a great job singing ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’.

Results at 8pm tonight (Sunday 7th) on ITV1.

SME x
