Plan B was in Australia recently and on a promo appearance at a national radio station, after plenty of swearing (he really made the most of their laid back approach compared to the PC UK!), he and his right hand man Shy SFX performed a cover of Kanye West’s ‘Runaway’. Real recognise real.

[REVIEW] Plan B – Brixton Academy 09/10/10 by mozzatron

Last night, SME made our way to Brixton Academy to see East London boy Ben Drew aka Plan B, on the London leg of his ‘Defamation Of Strickland Banks’ U.K tour.

On support was a man known only as ‘Eric’. With the other scheduled support calling in sick and having to play an extended set; when it would have been easier to be swallowed up by the crowd, Eric came up trumps and instead had us eating from them the palm of his hand.

Armed with just a guitar, he made his way through a repertoire of old school sing-a-longs that your parents would have been jiving to 30 years ago; hits from the likes of The Specials and The Police went down a storm. It’s not often you will see a largely unknown artist and his guitar hold a sell-out crowd so effortlessly. Impressive!

Eric was finally relieved of his duties and on came a suited and booted, Faith SFX.

SME first saw U.K beatbox champion Faith SFX perform at a gaming exhibition about 6 years ago, to a crowd of no more than 20. He couldn’t have been any older than 17 at the time, yet he still blew us away.
Several years on and he’s ‘playing’ to sell out crowds every night, supporting Plan B on a U.K tour. Deserved.

He beatboxed for about 15 minutes going through a host of tunes ranging from incredible renditions of Tinnie Tempah’s ‘Pass Out’ and Chase & Status ‘Africa V.I.P’ (check out the video footage below) to Swedish House Mafias ‘One’ and funky house anthem ‘I Don’t Want Nobody Baby’.

How do you follow that!? Incredible talent.
