[BIASED REVIEW] We Are S.M.E Blog Party Volume 2 18/02/11 by wearesme

After nursing some serious hangovers and using the time bed-ridden to piece together what actually happened on Friday night; we are now able bring you the following review…

There’s a phenomenon known as ‘sophomore slump’ – it’s best described as the collective apprehension that the second outing of something will fail to live up to the first effort. Bands have succumbed to it (‘difficult second album syndrome’) and so have newly promoted football teams who decide to finish in the top half of the table in their first season.

Would the We Are S.M.E Blog Party Volume II fall victim to the dreaded deuce? Would the loyal entourage be demanding compensation even though the party was free? Err, nah! To say the urban soiree popped off would be an understatement (the photo’s on the flip prove we’re not being biased).

Queen SME, DJ Steffie kicked off proceedings at our second home – Villian in London’s Shoreditch – with her usual hype and super-permed ‘fro. She was joined at the turntables by long time friend and collaborator Jason Taylor, the energy they gave off was mad – the two of them seemingly morphing into one filth-playing, skank-inducing DJ. Amongst this all was an impromptu rendition of Drake from SME, the vocal similarities were uncanny and it has to said that if SME ever fall on hard times, at least one member will find work as a Drake tribute act.

Not satisfied with providing the entourage with a skankathon, SME decided to throw a bit of history in the mix by reuniting resident DJ TP with DJ Marek after seven long years. Pretty much every man, woman and child (who let the kid in?) who heard them thought we were making the reunification up. Bringing with them a 3rd CDJ to act as hype-man, they were seamless; picking up where they left off all those years ago. And as if their serious set wasn’t enough, the pair produced our Volume 2 mixtape which went like hot cakes.

[SNAPS] Kelly Brook poses nude for SME! by wearesme

We are pleased to announce that through a combination of charm and blackmail, we have convinced Kelly Brook to bare all in the name of SME! Happy belated Valentine’s Day to the entourage!

Ok; we may be telling a porky or two. She has posed nude, however it was for Exhibition Magazine. In an incredibly revealing photo shoot, Kelly is snapped completely naked covered in red lipstick with some pictures reminiscent of an erotic horror scene.

We’re not a smutty website, so for the uncensored pics, head over to www.hollymoly.com.*

*Cue chorus of jaws hitting floor. SME know ours did!*

[REVIEW] Rock The Belles @ East Village with Yasmin and DJ Steffie 28/01/11 by wearesme

On Friday night (28/01/11) SME made our way to our second home East Village (home to our blog parties) for the launch of a cool new night called Rock The Belles. Rock the Belles aims to bring together the hottest female DJs, bands, designers and creatives for a genre-defying monthly celebration of the girls who are making their mark on the music industry.

On the night, 2 of those females making movements in the music industry were the incredible singer Yasmin, who was launching her debut single ‘On My Own’ on the night and SME’s very own Steffie, who was taking part in the all female DJ battle.

The night started off on the best note possible; bumping into A-Trak before his set at XOYO on our way to East Village.

We got to the venue and soon after it was ramo in the main room, with the queue outside making its way down Great Eastern Street. You had to feel for the guys waiting outside in subzero temperatures, but this reflected how big a night was on the cards.

The Work It Girls warmed everyone up with some old school RnB gems early on in the night. then later on in the evening, the vibe was turned up a notch. Steffie was spinning yet another big set upstairs, going head to head with the other 2 girls and Yasmin was tearing it up with a crazy cool Hip-Hop downstairs, which SME were definitely not expecting. The room erupted as she dropped banger after BANGER.
Good looking, the voice of an angel and a master on the decks…is there anything this girl can’t do!?

Check out some snaps from the evening below. And don’t miss Rock The Belles round 2 featuring Little Boots. Same venue on 25/02/11 and every last Friday of the month onwards.

And you can download Yasmin’s debut single/EP from iTunes HERE.

[SNAPS] The Nicki Minaj London Lookbook by wearesme

Nicki Minaj has been causing chaos all week in London as she embarks on several PA’s promoting her album ‘Pink Friday’.

Nicki was due to make PA’s at both Oceana in Watford and Runway in the West End, however the later had to close their doors due to safety concerns caused by the sheer volume of people who turned up.

If that wasn’t enough; Nicki was then kicked out of the Dorchester hotel because they could not handle her excitable Barbz, some of which camped outside to get a glimpse of their idol.
She therefore relocated to another Hotel and went on to host a ‘Pink Friday’ party at Studio Valbonne on Friday night.

Nicki is never one to shy away from the papz and loves to cause a stir with her crazy cool outfits, and this week was no exception. Check out her London looks below:

[GIG REVIEW+VIDEO] Jessie J Live @ Scala, Kings Cross 17/01/11 by wearesme

Last night, SME and the entourage had the pleasure of seeing Jessie J’s live show at Scala in Kings Cross and with it, celebrate her Number 2 single in this weeks chart.

Getting straight to the point; Jessie was incredible. Her amazing voice filled the intimate venue, while her charisma and cheeky personality had the crowd in stitches and hanging on her every word.

So often artist (cough*Drake*cough) pad out their sets and only succeed in boring all of those in attendance. However, with Jessie we were not only treated to a vocal masterclass, but at times a stand-up comedy set. The girl is hilarious! And the best part is that it’s all completely genuine because she was born to perform.

She opened the set with Mama Knows Best and followed with Stand Up, Nobody’s Perfect, L.O.V.E and Who’s Laughing Now.

The highlight of the night however, was Jessie’s performance of Big White Room; the first track she ever wrote.
She announced that while recording her album, the perfection for which she aims has thus far eluded her on every recording of this song which means so much to her. “It’s just never felt right” she said.
So, we were treated to something very special. The beautiful performance which was about to follow, would be the final recording of the song and will feature on her album.

At her request, the crowd were silent and she gave a flawless rendition which drew goosebumps all around. Watch the performance below:

This was followed by a special appearance from our favourite Essex boy Devlin who took to the stage to perform their new single ‘Price Tag’.
