J Dilla would have been 37 years of age today. Sadly; this incredible talent was taken from the world on February 10th 2006, aged just 32. Dilla, born James Dewitt Yancey on February 7th 1974, suffered from an extremely rare blood disease called TTP which eventually took his life.

JD was one of the music industry’s most influential hip-hop artists, working for big-name acts like A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Busta Rhymes and Common. He continues to have a major influence on music, having left behind him a legacy and a catalogue of music.

As a tribute to the memory and legacy of J Dilla, a documentary has been released which was created back in 2006. “This is a piece designed for his fans and supporters who knew of his accomplishments before February 2006 and those that have grown to appreciate his genius. Here, we gain a greater insight and understanding about our musical icon.”

Happy Birthday J Dilla.

[NEW MUSIC] Skylar Grey – Love The Way You Lie (Original Demo) by wearesme

On the back of the success of Rihannas ‘Love The Way You Lie’ which she both wrote and performed piano on; it has been a huge year for Skylar Grey so far. She has featured on Diddy Dirty Money’s ‘Coming Home’, Dr Dre & Eminem’s ‘I Need A Doctor’ and most recently Lupe Fiasco’s brand new single ‘Words I Never Said’.

Speaking to PopEater she spoke about ‘Love The Way You Lie’ and revealed that she wanted to let her fans hear the original demo which she sang.

“I wrote the demo initially for myself because I thought, ‘Oh, I have this big song, and now I have a little bit of a launching pad to put out my own stuff.’ As soon as Rihanna and her team heard my demo, they were like, ‘Oh we want it for Rihanna’s album,’ so I had to make the decision if I was going to let them have it or not. But I did and so it was on Rihanna’s album, too. I still felt like it would be cool to let people hear my version of it, too.”

Vodpod videos no longer available.
