[WAY BACK WHEN] Pretty Ricky – Grind With Me by wearesme

“Girlfriend I’ll never go (raw); I rip off panties and I pop off (bras)”

Occasionally, SME like to reminisce about our youth; often it’s harmless pondering  but on occasion, it causes us to revisit some of our teenage stomping grounds (very, very rarely –we swear), where as ‘no-longer-teenagers’, we find ourselves skanking with kids who are reminiscent of munchkins – to tunes that were probably released when they still couldn’t feed themselves.

Anyway, luckily for the entourage, it was on one of these sojourns that we happened upon this absolute stonker.  We weren’t sure how responsible it was of the DJ to play a song with lyrics such as “suckin’ on the nipple; lick the whip cream from the middle” – but then again SME were first listening to this in 2005, when we were legal and chomping on the bit – hearing it back again certainly explains a lot.

Grind With Me was the first single off Pretty Ricky’s debut album Bluestars and went to #7 on the Billboard Hot 100. Have a listen…just don’t start grinding up on inanimate objects.

[2005] Way Back When:

  • Pope John Paul II dies
  • Live 8, a set of 10 simultaneous concerts, takes place throughout the world, in aid of the Make Poverty History campaign
  • Pictures of Prince Harry wearing a Nazi military uniform at a private ‘fancy dress’ party are published in the newspapers

SME would like to wish everyone a Happy Valentines Day!

As we all know, Valentines Day is full of romance and love. A day in which partners can show one another how much they care, commonly in the form of flowers and gifts. But forget all of that commercial exploitation; it’s all about the bump & grind!

It’s a time of year in which it isn’t frowned upon to listen to Boyz II Men or Donell Jones. And of course, a time which is profitable for the aforementioned artist, who fight back the years to reform for a quick-buck show on Valentines Day. Coming to an Oceana near you!

If you wouldn’t be seen dead in an Oceana or simply want to warm up for tonights bump n grind, we have the perfect date for you; our SME Slowjams Mixtape which contains some of the best slow jams of our time, carefully selected by SME.

If this doesn’t get you in the mood for Valentines Day then nothing will!

Spread the love.

[GIG REVIEW] Drake & J.Cole @ HMV Hammersmith Apollo 07/01/11 by wearesme

SME had been eagerly awaiting this date for quite some time. Friday 07th January 2011; Drake would perform his first ever show on U.K soil. It was Drizzy time.

The queue was, for lack of a better word, HENCH! Roughly 45 minutes later, we got through the doors and were greeted by the oh so welcoming and in no way irritating voice of Tim Westwood. The Big Dawg dropped a few big hip-hop beats to get the crowd in the mood.

Drake’s good friend J.Cole came along for moral support and it has to be said; he stole the show.

Appropriately opening the show with the track ‘Welcome’, taken from ‘The Warm Up’ mixtape; Cole brought real energy to the stage and went on to give an inspired ‘real hip-hop’ performance.

We felt his enthusiasm and energy; the crowd we’re loving every minute. And it was great to see an abundance of J.Cole fans in the crowd who sang along to every song. Quite the contrary to what he said when he took to the stage; ‘”most of you are probably thinking who the f**k is this guy”. Give yourself some more credit son!

In his 30 minute set, J.Cole performed a few older tracks along with fan favourites from the brilliant ‘Friday Night Lights’ mixtape. The 2 stand out tracks from the performance and those which had the crowd buzzing were inevitably ‘In The Morning’ (for which sadly Drake didn’t appear to perform his verse) and ‘Higher’. You can see footage of both below.

J.Cole gained a lot of new fans after this polished performance. And for those who are already big fans like SME; he only further reaffirmed the opinion that he may well justify the title that some have given him as ‘The saviour of Hip-Hop’. Now he’s signed to Roc Nation, there is no limit to what he can achieve. Here’s to real Hip-Hop!

NEW MUSIC: Drake – Fall For Your Type (Same Mistakes) by wearesme

The reference track featuring Jamie Foxx dropped last week and the original sang by Drake on his lonesome has now premiered.

‘Fall For Your Type’ was supposed to feature on his R&B mixtape but he has now decided to take a hiatus from that and focus more on rapping.

Its a real shame because the tracks we’ve been hearing have been sick. He’s a master of slow jams. Let’s hope we keep hearing all the tracks he worked on before he sacked it off.

Hopefully he drops a few when SME see him in January. Yeh we got tickets! BOOM!
