[VIDEO] Magnetic Man – The Bug (Live in the 1Xtra Live Lounge) by wearesme

Fresh from blowing the roof off at Brixton Academy on Saturday evening for the NME Awards Tour; Skream, Benga and Artwork popped in to see Trevor Nelson in the 1Xtra studios and were kind enough to give a live performance of their song ‘The Bug’, taken from their debut album Magnetic Man.

Below you can see footage of the performance; a fascinating insight, as they piece the song together as if it were a puzzle. Technology these days!

SME RELOAD: [REVIEW] NME Awards Tour Brixon 20/02/11

[REVIEW] NME Awards Tour @ Brixton 20/2/11 by wearesme

SME were very kindly invited down to Brixton Academy for the NME Awards Tour on Saturday evening by our friends at Get Involved. The lineup looked pretty impressive; The Vaccines, Everything Everything, Magnetic Man and Crystal Castles all in one evening? It was like Christmas come early!

The Awards Tour began all the way up in Glasgow at the beginning of the month and this, the biggest show of them all, would bring it to a close.

We were sure to arrive early because The Vaccines were up first, and following our interview with Freddie from the band, we couldn’t wait to seeing the band live for the first time.
They certainly didn’t disappoint; their up beat rock n roll sound had the main floor bouncing, especially during their brilliant debut single Post Break-Up Sex and the frantic 1 minute 20 seconds long Wreckin’ Bar, which will forever be a fan favourite. The band also performed their next single ‘If You Wanna’ which is due for release in March.

Their sets remain fairly short, at roughly the half hour mark; but in this short time they bring with them brilliant positive energy and upbeat, feel good tracks which leave you in great spirits. Having now seen them live, it is easy to see why they are tipped to be a band that will play a major part in guitar music’s resurgence in 2011.

We hope you believed us yesterday when we said 2011 is the year of the Skream!

We had to make do with a small clip taken from the Red Bull Music Academy Culture Clash II but now the full track is finally here!
Skream teams up with his homeboy Example for this track titled ‘Shot Yourself In The Foot Again’; premiered this morning on Radio 1 by Zane Lowe as part of the specialist takeover.

The boys were also shooting a video for the track in Brighton last night, so as soon as it surfaces SME will have it for your viewing pleasure!

SME RELOAD: Cassius – I Love You So (Skream Remix)
SME RELOAD: Skream – The Freeizm Album

[NEW MUSIC] Cassius – I Love You So (Skream Remix) by wearesme

2010 was a massive year for Skream and Magnetic Man but SME think 2011 holds even bigger things for 1/3 of MM. Skream has been working on a lot of side projects and putting out his own material and we’re loving what we’ve been hearing.

Most recently he remixed POW 2011 arguably making it a better track giving it the attitude and bass it lacked in comparison to the 2006 version. He also released a free EP full of bangers just in time for X-Mas which he cheekily titled ‘The Freeizm Album’. If you missed it you can grab it HERE.

He has now announced the release of a remix he did of the Cassius track ‘I Love You So’ on Ed Banger Records Label. He shows his versatility, steering away from heavy dub beats with a more upbeat feel good vibe on this track.

SME definitely heard Busy P drop this at an Adidas Originals warehouse party we were invited to last month and we’re glad it’s getting a release. Annie Mac premiered it on the radio on New Years eve and you can listen to it below.

Released date: 14 February 2011.
