It’s fast turning into G.O.O.D. Music day here at SME with the number of related posts. For once, however, it isn’t all about Kanye.

Having received the honour of being selected as a member of the XXL 2011 Freshmen Class, Cyhi The Prynce’s celebrates by releasing the customary freestyle. Watch the video and see what he had to say on being selected below.

“It means a lot to me to just be known as one of the up-and-coming artists. I always like to say I got kept back twice from the Freshmen cover, but it’s a privilege just being amongst some of the best up-and-coming artists out right now and being publicized by the biggest hip-hop magazine. It’s a dream come true. It’s what every artist wanted to be. You know they want to see themselves on the cover of a magazine, or heavily publicized, so it’s an honor to me. It’s a blessing and a half. Right before I linked with Kanye, my car got repossessed. Everything wasn’t all peachy, peachy for me. I have a lot of plays this year due to me and this Kanye situation.

Freshman is like a stepping-stone. Most artists think this is the biggest point of their career. This is a stepping-stone to bigger and better things, especially with XXL. I want to have one with just my face on it, that’s the cool thing. I just need to stay working and capitalize off of every opportunity I get.”

Diggy Simmons has been named as one of XXL’s Freshman of 2011 (11 of the hottest prospects in HipHop/Rap right now) and rightfully so. Granted; he has the best mentor any aspiring rapper could ask for in the form of Run DMC founder Rev Run – his father, but he hasn’t rested on his laurels.

He has the witty lyrics of someone twice his age and as you can see from the freestyle below, he flows effortlessly.

Here’s what Diggy had to say on being selected for the Freshman Cover; “Being here means a lot. It’s always been something I thought was real cool, as a new artist to be on, and it was something that I wanted to be on this year. When I heard [I made it], I was like, ‘What?’ You know, that’s something I was freaking out over, because I was putting in all this hard work, and to see it, you know, actually see the things come to past my ways, it’s just crazy. There are certain goals that people wanna reach, and being a new artist, I’m sure—well, hip-hop artist—I’m sure being on the Freshmen [cover] is one of them. And that was something that I definitely wanted to do. I mean, being here is crazy.”

[SNAPS] Dr. Dre covers December/January 2011 XXL Magazine & talks Detox by wearesme

Dr. Dre graces the cover of the Decemer/January 2011 edition of XXL magazine, further confirming that Detox is just around the corner.

Dre touches on several hot topics including todays leak of the track with Akon and Snoop Dogg ‘Kush’;

“It got leaked, and it was a version of it that I wasn’t really happy about,” Dre explained. “But we’re gonna go ahead and push it and put it out, since everybody seems to like it. It’s about weed smoking, and I didn’t want people to think that’s what my album was about. This is actually the only type of song with that type of content on it.”

With regards to Detox, he announces that it’s only a matter of time before it’s complete (SME think we can believe him this time) and talks of the pressure behind this album;

“I see the finish line right now,” Dre added. “I’m wrapping it up. I need about two or three more songs, and hopefully I’ll start the mixing process at the end of next month. From that point I’m about 30 days out. One of the reasons it was taking so long was because I felt like I was doing it more out of obligation as opposed to actually feeling it.”

And finally, he talks about his plans to put down the mic after Detox has released, but fear not he’s not stepping away from music completely;

“I don’t ever see myself retiring totally from music, because I have a genuine love and passion for it,” he said. “But as far as me going into the mic booth, that shit is over. I’m always going to talent scout and try to find new artists to work with. But, yeah, that’s it. I don’t see myself doing it the way I’m doing it now. I’m in the studio at least five or six days a week for 16, 18 hours. I think I’m going to back off a little bit and spend some time with the family.”
